The CARD-JAX Mouse Reproductive Technology Workshop was held at Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine (USA) on Oct 15 to 19, 2018. The workshop was organized by Naomi Nakagata and Toru Takeo of the Center for Animal Resources and Development (CARD) at Kumamoto University and Rob Taft, Jennifer Corrigan and Leanne Miceli of The Jackson Laboratory. Fifteen students participated in this 5 day event. Six lectures were provided by Dr. Larry Mobraaten (History of Mouse Bank), Dr. Jorge Sztein (History of Cryobiology), Prof. Naomi Nakagata (History of CARD), Dr. Toru Takeo (Two lectures of Ultrasuperovulation and Shipment of live embryos and sperm), and Dr. Barbara Stone (Non-surgical Embryo Transfer: NSET). Hands-on techniques covered embryo handling, oocyte, embryo and sperm cryopreservation and recovery, cold storage of embryo and sperm, surgical and non‐surgical embryo transfer, In‐vitro fertilization, flushing embryos, vasectomy, superovulation and inducing pseudopregnancy. Aseptic surgical techniques, biomethods and project planning were also be covered. It was a fruitful workshop to share the knowledge, experience and technology of mouse reproductive technology.
