The 7th Asian Federation of Laboratory Animal Science Associations (AFLAS) congress was held at Raffles City Convention Center in Singapore. The aim of AFLAS is to promotes through international co-operation Asian Congresses on Laboratory Animal Science for the purpose of reviewing scientific, technical and educational problems in Laboratory Animal Science, to develop other relevant activities in the interest of Laboratory Animal Science, and to contribute to animal welfare. Our two students, Kazuki Shirakado (Graduate student of Master Course) and Masafumi Noda (Undergraduate student) presented the latest data about male infertility and sperm cryopreservation. Dr. Toru Takeo visited and provided a lecture about the latest improvements in mouse reproductive technology to accelerate the research on Medical Science using genetically modified mice at the Agency for Science Technology and Reseach (A*STAR) which has a mission to drive and sustain world-class scientific research that supports Singapore’s economic growth and enhances the lives of both the community and the industry.
The CARD-IP Mouse Embryo and Sperm Cryopreservation Workshop was held at Institut Pasteur in Paris from 24 Oct to 28 Oct, 2016. Prof. Naomi Nakagata (CARD, Kumamoto University, Japan) and Dr. Jean Jaubert (Institute Pasteur, France) coorganized the workshop. CARD team and lecturers provided lectures and instructions about the latest reproductive and transgenic technology. Our students, Hidetaka Yoshimoto (Graduate student of doctral course, HIGO Program) and Ayumi Mukunoki (Graduate student of master course, HIGO Program) firstly joinned our workshop as lecturure and instructor. Twenty four students from 14 countries were participated in the course. It was a great opportunity to share the latest techniques and knowledge of mouse reproductive technology. During the workshop, our Institute (Institute of Research, Development and Analysis, Kumamoto University) signed an agreement of institutional cooperation with Institut Pasteur. The strategic agreement will be fruitful to achieve the mission to prevent and treat infectious diseases based on the research using genetically engineered mice. Lecturures:

The workshop was a part of the Sakura Exchange Program in Sciences which is the program for enhancing exchanges between Asia and Japan of the youths who will play a crucial role in the future field of science and technology through the close collaboration of industry-academia-government by facilitating short-term visits of competent Asian youths to Japan. In this project, students from University of the Philippines Los Baños, is the Philippine's National University, an acknowledged graduate, research and public service educational institution in the country and in the region, attended our workshop to lean basic theory and technique of mouse reproductive technology. Professor Naomi Nakagata and Dr. Toru Takeo organized the workshop and our students: Masafumi Noda, Kazuki Shirakado, Kenji Takemoto, Koharu Kirikihira, Chihiro Sugahara and Kana Tamura participated in the workshop as instructor. It was a very fruitful workshop to share the knowledge and experience of the latest techniques of mouse reproductive technology and have a good communication with young and talented Philippine and Japanese students.
Dr. Toru Takeo attended the IPAD-MD Industry and Innovation Workshop in Munich from 28-29 June, 2016. In the meeting, Dr. Takeo provided a lecture about the CARD's Kaizen Strategy in Mouse Reproductive Technology. The IPAD-MD project (Research Infrastructure for Phenotyping, Arching and Distribution of Mouse Diseases Models) addresses the global cooperation and coordination between INFRAFRONTIER and complementary research infrastructures world-wide, contributing to the global effort of IMPC. IPAD-MD will focus on key stakeholder involvement.

We are very delighted to do research on Reproductive Biology and develop new technology together. Haruka and Chihiro, welcome to Nakagata Lab!
Ayumi Mukunoki won the Young Investigator Award of the Japan Society for Ova Research (JSOR) in May 2016. In addition, she won the Poster Award of Asia Mouse Mutagenesis Resource Association (AMMRA)/Asia Mouse Phenotyping Consortium (AMPC) in May 2016. She received the Award from Dr. Mark Moore who is a executive director of the International Mouse Phynotyping Consortium (IMPC) in the AMMRA/IMPC meeting.
Ayumi Mukunoki will be awarded the Academic Investigator Award of the Japan Society for Ova Research4/20/2016 Ayumi Mukunoki, who is a graduate student of Nakagata Lab, will be awarded the Academic Investigator Award of the Japan Society for Ova Research (JSOR) in 2016. The 57th JSOR will be held in Niigata prefecture, Japan, May 14-15, 2016. In the meeting, Ayumi Mukunoki will provide a lecture about a novel technique of in vitro fertilization using vitrified-warmed oocytes derived from ultrasuperovulation (IASe method: inhibin antiserum and equine chorionic gondadotropin).
The 13th Transgenic Technology Meeting (TT2016) was held in Prague, Czech Republic, from March 20th-23rd, 2016. TT2016 was organized by the Czech Centre for Phenogenomics (CCP), which is hosted by the Institute of Molecular Genetics (IMG) of the Academy of Science of Czech Republic. The IMG, founded in 1962, is one of 52 institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (ASCR). The program of TT2016 conference included the generation, analysis and application of transgenic models, advances and applications in genome editing and manipulation, and important issues regarding animal ethics and welfare. Dr. Toru Takeo attended as an invited speaker in the conference and presented a lecture with title of "Efficient production of mouse oocytes using superovulation by immunization against inhibin". He enjoyed all the time in Prague and had a great opportunity to meet his teachers, who are editors of Manipulating the Mouse Embryos: A Laboratory Manual, Fourth Edition (Dr. Richard Behringer, Dr. Marina Gertsenstein and Dr. Andras Nagy), in Gala dinner. We greatly appreciate Dr. Radislav Sedlacek (Chair of the TT2016 organizing committee) and all organizers of ISTT for your excellent efforts to make a wonderful conference. PHOTOGALLERY of TT2016 Mouse Cryopreservation Workshop was held at Czech Center for Phenogenomics in Institute of Molecular Genetics ASCR (Prague, Czech Republic) from March 16-18 in 2016. This 3-day course was intended to give animal technologists hands-on experience of the murine embryo and spermatozoa freezing techniques routinely used at archiving nodes serving the European Mouse Mutant Archive (EMMA). Dr. Toru Takeo supported the workshop as an educational crew.
